SUNDRE – Council recently approved a request from the Sundre and District Aquatic Society to waive one of the Aquaplex’s utility bills.

Presenting the item on Dec. 2 during a regular meeting, Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, said the society was seeking council’s consideration in forgiving the cost of water consumption and sewage that was incurred when the pool was refilled after a scheduled maintenance program.

“That shutdown did cost the Aquaplex over $200,000,” said Nelson adding the utility bill represented an amount of almost $2,550.

Administration recommended approving the request to waive the October utility bill in an amount not to exceed a little more than $2,600, which included a penalty.

Coun. Jaime Marr moved to that effect, pointing to a report submitted and presented by the society outlining how much the organization spends on maintaining the facility.

Out of the hundreds of thousands the society has spent, Marr said the requested amount to be waived was reasonable.

With no member of council opposed, the motion carried unanimously.
