A Sundre woman was one of two people scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court Friday, March 1 following reports of a suspicious vehicle near the Olds-Didsbury Airport that turned out to be stolen.
On Feb. 27, at about 9:45 a.m. Olds RCMP were told that a blue Dodge pickup with significant body damage and without a licence plate had been found near the airport in the ditch of Twp Rd. 320 between Rge. Rd. 15 and Rge. Rd. 20.
When police got there, they determined the vehicle was stolen. They were then told suspicious people had been seen nearby at the airport who also matched a description of those seen near the abandoned stolen vehicle.
Police went to the airport and arrested Jeremy Willis, 38, of Calgary and Samantha Peterson, 29, of Sundre, for possession of property obtained by crime.
RCMP say when they searched Willis, they found about 21 grams of what they believe to be methamphetamine “in various individually packaged quantities.”
A search of Peterson turned up break-in instruments.
As a result, Willis and Peterson were both charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (the truck).
In addition, Willis was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance (the methamphetamine) and Peterson was charged with possession of break-in instruments suitable for breaking into vehicles.
"Olds RCMP would like to acknowledge the citizens who took steps to report these circumstances to the police that ultimately led to the apprehension of those charged,” a news release says.
