SUNDRE - An elderly Sundre resident and an elderly Rocky Mountain House resident died in a vehicle collision Friday morning on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway just south of Red Deer.
Another Sundre resident was seriously injured in the same collision and taken to hospital, police said in a statement released last night
At about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 20, Blackfalds RCMP reported they were on scene responding to a serious motor vehicle collision on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway just south of McKenzie road near Red Deer.
RCMP advised that northbound traffic on the highway was being diverted while emergency crew responded and police investigated.
“Despite efforts from emergency crews, two people identified as a 93-year-old male Sundre resident and a 78-year-old male Rocky Mountain House resident died on scene. A third vehicle occupant, a 70-year-old female resident of Sundre was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries,” police said.
According to the statement, RCMP remained on scene for several hours while a collision analyst conducted their investigation.
“Though still early in the investigation, preliminary findings suggests that one of the vehicles was pulled over on the side of the road and, when trying to reintegrate the travelling lane, collided with a vehicle heading in the same direction,” police said.
At about 2:30 p.m., RCMP advised they had cleared the scene and normal traffic flow resumed.
