Fire Prevention Week recognized in Sundre

Longest running public health awareness campaign runs Oct. 4 - 10
sundre-news

SUNDRE - Council recently carried two unrelated motions proclaiming recognition for both the annual Fire Prevention Week, which takes place Oct. 4-10, as well as International Day of Older Persons, which was observed Oct. 1.

Fire Prevention Week became a national initiative in 1925, making it the longest running public health awareness campaign in the country. This year’s theme is Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!

The motion approving that proclamation also includes urging everyone in Sundre to check their homes, especially their kitchens, for fire hazards as well as to support public safety activities and efforts of the municipality’s fire and emergency services.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations as well as the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons. The emergence of COVID-19 has caused upheaval across the world and most seriously affected seniors. The day of recognition’s aim is to emphasize the value of seniors and raise awareness about the barriers older adults face.
