The 4th annual Sundre Forest Products Family Day fish derby was once again a success.
We had 94 brave participants tackle the cold weather and come out to enjoy a day of free fishing. A warm lunch was provided for all of the registered participants, consisting of delicious chili for the adults and hotdogs for the kids. Other goodies included doughnuts, squares, cupcakes, hot chocolate and coffee.
There were lots of fish caught again this year, mostly consisting of perch but there were a few pike entered as well. Ed Stefanowich took home the prize for the biggest pike. Cindy Tooth caught the biggest perch, adult category and Kaieson Johnson had top honours for the largest perch, youth category.
Dave from West Country Sports had a great selection of fishing gear to choose from again this year. Our Can provided porta-potties for the derby, which was really appreciated.
The following people helped make the derby possible: First of all, the employees at Sundre Forest Products that donate to the social club. Perry Hingsberger for helping with setup, signing in and weighing of the fish. Darcy Tooth for showing up bright and early to help me set up. Mike and Arlene Stevenson for their help with signing participants in and setup. Arlene, Moe Fahey and Jennifer Stefanowich for making the wonderful chili. James and Lisa Laundry and Paul Smith for all of their help with cleanup and making sure everything went smoothly.
Lori Berg and Rocklyn Konynenbelt from Alberta Sustainable Resources helped again this year with the rules and licence.
This event would not be possible without the involvement from the employees in the social club and all of the hard work and hours of time that the social club committee volunteers do to make this event run as smoothly as possible. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back next year.
