SUNDRE – On top of their annual silent auction, this year the Friends of the Sundre Library group has also introduced a new fundraiser in the form of a calendar featuring photos of a selection of titles that have inspired and influenced readers.
The 2025 calendar was several months in the making and involved inviting people who were interested in participating to pick out a book that resonated with them that they would recommend others consider reading and to also include why the title bears significance for them.
Local photographer Mike Kapiczowski then snapped close-up photos of the hands of those who participated holding up their book of choice, which resulted in about 30 pictures ranging in genres from children’s titles to epic fantasies and even historical fiction.
The pool of images was voted on with the top-12 each being featured with a month while the calendar’s back page includes all of the honourable mentions.
As this was the first attempt at trying out the idea of raising funds through a calendar sale, only 100 copies were printed.
Meanwhile, the silent auction got started on Nov. 19 and boasts approximately 230 donated items ranging from loaded gift baskets and assorted holiday decorations to handcrafted artisanal pieces as well as a variety of services offered by numerous local businesses. The deadline to place bids is Nov. 28.
The Friends of the Sundre Library is a non-profit organization that supports the library by raising funds to offset the costs of certain expenses such as shelving and furniture as well as programs and services.
