The Town of Sundre awarded River Valley School’s outdoor classroom the largest amount of funding in the first intake under a new grant program.

Linda Nelson, Sundre's chief administrative officer, provided an update on the new grant program that council had previously approved.

“We have done the first intake,” said Nelson, adding the application deadline was at the end of June, but that another round of intakes is planned in September.

The grant committee reviewed all of the applications, and recommended council approve the following: $15,000 for River Valley School’s outdoor classroom from an initial request of $30,000; $430 for landscape improvements at the Sundre and District Museum, which had requested $435; $1,500 for the Sundre and District Historical Society’s Canada Day event, from an original request of $2,500; the full $1,500 requested by Wagons West RV Park for the annual slingshot rally; $750 of a $1,500 request from the Sundre Rodeo and Race Association for pro rodeo events; $1,000 out of $1,500 requested by Rusty Brush Arts and Gifts for the upcoming Sundre Fine Arts Expo; the full $500 requested as a donation for the annual Play 4 Sundre Kidz golf tournament fundraiser; as well as the full $1,500 requested for the Greenwood Community Gazebo.

Coun. Todd Dalke moved to approve the committee’s recommendations as presented, which carried unanimously.
