The Sundre RCMP apprehended on Halloween an adult male and three youths following reports of eggs being thrown from a speeding vehicle that resulted in a teenage trick-or-treater being struck in the face. Once caught, the culprits apologized and the teenager’s mother did not proceed to press criminal charges.

Members of the Sundre RCMP detachment responded quickly on Halloween to a report that eggs were being thrown from a speeding vehicle, resulting in a young trick-or-treater being hit.

Police received a complaint that a 13-year-old girl was out going door to door enjoying Halloween with friends when she was struck in the face with an egg from the moving vehicle, reported Cpl. Joe Mandel.

The vehicle was witnessed speeding through residential areas. RCMP were provided a detailed description of the vehicle, which was subsequently located by police heading south on Centre Street crossing the Bearberry Bridge, he said in a press release.

The vehicle was stopped at FasGas near the Main Avenue intersection, where three youths and an adult male were detained by police. A carton of eggs and open alcohol were located within the vehicle, he said.

“After several moments of questioning, the individuals took ownership of their actions. The girl’s mother was contacted and attended the location where she personally expressed her disappointment with the individuals.”

The four individuals all apologized to the teenager and her mother for their lapse in judgement prior to the mother transporting her daughter to the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre for treatment to her eye that was struck, he said.

The mother opted not to proceed with criminal charges but requested provincial charges. Police had the individuals dump their booze and issued approximately $500 in traffic and liquor fines, he said.

Aside from the egg throwers, there were no other shenanigans to report for Halloween, he added.
