Hart Legacy Wrestling circuit comes to Sundre following pandemic KO

Off Script 2022 tour included performances at Sundre Arena

SUNDRE — The local hockey rink temporarily became a boisterous battleground of bravado recently when Hart Legacy Wrestling’s Off Script 2022 tour came to town to deliver some high-octane, adrenaline-pumping action.

About 30 people attended the event hosted on the evening of Monday, Aug. 22 at the Sundre Arena in partnership with the Sundre Rec Hockey Association.

“The show itself was pretty good,” said Shawn MacNeil, the association’s president. “Everybody I talked to seemed to enjoy it.”

When Hart Legacy Wrestling representatives reached out to the association, MacNeil said the board decided to get involved.

“It was a good opportunity for us,” he said. “They reached out to all of the local youth groups from what I understand from what they were saying, and we were just the first one to get back to them.”

With $7.50 allocated to the association for every ticket sold, a total of $195 was raised for the local, non-competitive hockey league. In exchange, the association agreed to help promote the event on social media as well as posters throughout the community and some ads on the radio, he said.

Although the association had hoped for a larger turnout, the show did not disappoint and at least the local youth hockey organization received a little financial boost, he said.

“Every little bit that you can pick up from somewhere on stuff like this helps,” he said. “The more fundraising we can do, the less we have to worry about raising prices and passing it on to our membership trying to keep the rates low. That’s the goal of fundraising anyway.”

Registration for rec hockey started at the beginning of August and the deadline for early bird registration scheduled on Sept. 11. Visit the group’s Facebook page to find a link to register a player.
