SUNDRE – Nearly 140 people braved not only the cold and snow on Saturday night but also the spine-chilling presence of witches and spectres that haunted the pioneer village at the Sundre & District Museum historic grounds.
Clara Shand, museum assistant and tour guide, praised the many volunteers who enthusiastically embraced the spirit of the season by getting into character as they endeavoured to give goosebumps and provide some jump scares.
“We all had a blast dressing up,” she said, adding that with some brave souls fearlessly opting to venture out onto the haunted grounds more than once, attendance felt closer to 160.
“A few groups went second and even third times,” she said. “It was great to see so many people out.”
The event also generated support for both the Plus 1 Emergency Food Hamper program as well as the Sundre & District Historical Society’s Raise the Roof fundraising campaign.
Earlier that same day, volunteers from the Sundre Municipal Library had hosted family-friendly, carnival-style activities and games at the museum, along the way distributing plenty of treats for all of the kids who dropped by.
