SUNDRE - The Sundre area was among several locations in Alberta to hit a record high temperature Monday as a pronounced mid-winter thaw continues across the province.
According to Environment Canada's weather summary issued Tuesday, the temperature rose to 13.1 C at the Sundre Airport on Jan. 29.
That’s a new record for the date, the federal agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993.
The previous record high for the area on Jan. 29 was 12.0 C set in 2017.
The following areas set a daily maximum temperature record on Jan. 29 (temperature values given in degrees Celsius):
• Banff area: New record of 10.7. Old record of 10.6 set in 1931. Records in this area have been kept since 1887.
• Beaverlodge area: New record of 11.6. Old record of 10.0 set in 1993. Records in this area have been kept since 1912.
• Bow Valley Provincial Park area: New record of 13.5. Old record of 12.8 set in 1931. Records in this area have been kept since 1928.
• Breton area: New record of 11.7. Old record of 10.0 set in 1993. Records in this area have been kept since 1939.
• Crowsnest area: New record of 11.6. Old record of 7.6 set in 2012. Records in this area have been kept since 1965.
• Grande Prairie area: New record of 10.0. Old record of 8.9 set in 1993. Records in this area have been kept since 1922.
• Hendrickson Creek area - New record of 15.3. Old record of 8.4 set in 1997. Records in this area have been kept since 1995.
• High Level area: New record of 11.8. Old record of 7.2 set in 2000. Records in this area have been kept since 1962.
• Highvale area: New record of 9.9. Old record of 7.8 set in 1999. Records in this area have been kept since 1977.
• Nordegg area: New record of 15.9. Old record of 10.0 set in 1976. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.
• Red Earth Creek area - New record of 12.3. Old record of 6.6 set in 2000. Records in this area have been kept since 1994.
• Stony Plain area - New record of 10.7. Old record of 9.0 set in 1993. Records in this area have been kept since 1966.
• Waterton Park area - New record of 13.2. Old record of 12.5 set in 1984. Records in this area have been kept since 1976.
Environment Canada advises that the temperature records reported here have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
