SUNDRE — The recently completed upgrades and additions at the Royal Purple Park’s playground have proved popular with local youth.
Not only were new play structures installed, but a three-metre wide asphalt walking path was also laid, improving accessibility from the road for everyone, including parents with strollers as well as those with reduced mobility.
Additionally, gravel was replaced with what is known as a pour-in-place product that provides a low maintenance rubber surface. The material, made entirely from recycled tires, is safer than options such as gravel, and is also said to prevent water from pooling up.
That expense was covered by a grant courtesy of the Alberta Recycling Management Authority.
Right after work was completed a few weeks ago, local youths wasted no time trying out the new playground, which is located along the 8th Avenue NE loop north of the Sundre hospital.
