SUNDRE — Nearly 1,000 people in the area are without power following a sudden outage in Sundre this afternoon that has left utility crews scrambling to determine the source of the problem.

Amid relatively light rain in the Sundre area, the power cut out at 1:46 p.m. and was estimated to be restored by about 4:30 p.m., according to the Fortis Alberta website, which also indicated that 961 customers were affected.

“We have a local crew on the ground; they’re currently patrolling the area doing some investigation,” Tanya Croft, Fortis manager of corporate communications, said at about 2:15 p.m.

“I can’t speak to any specific details at this point in time in terms of cause, but definitely our priority is to make sure we get the power back on,” she told the Albertan during a phone interview, expressing gratitude for people’s patience as crews work to identify and resolve the issue.
