A Sundre male facing charges including impaired driving and careless use of a firearm has pleaded not guilty.
David Victor Franke, 26, of Sundre, was in Didsbury provincial court on Monday, May 16.
On Friday, April 15 at approximately 4:40 a.m., a concerned citizen called police to report that he could see vehicle headlights on the east side of the Red Deer River just north of River Road. The caller further reported that he could hear numerous gunshots being fired.
Police attended the scene and located two males that were attempting to leave the area in a pickup truck. Police conducted a traffic stop and found both the driver and passenger impaired by alcohol. A search of the vehicle turned up two restricted handguns, reported the Sundre RCMP.
Franke was subsequently officially charged with the following offences: impaired operation of a motor vehicle; impaired operation of a motor vehicle while blood alcohol content more than the legal limit; unlawful transport of a firearm; and careless use of a firearm.
Following his not-guilty plea, Franke's trial date was scheduled for Nov. 9.
