Lots to see at Neighbours' Day 2023

Firefighters partnered up with police and paramedics to conduct a staged collision scenario just outside Sundre Area

SUNDRE – People gathered at the Sundre Arena on Friday, Aug. 25 during the annual Neighbours’ Day community exhibition put on by the Sundre Petroleum Operators Group.

Although Neighbours’ Day was originally introduced as an initiative to improve the lines of communication between industry and landowners, the event has over the years long since evolved to become more of a community exhibition that also includes non-profit organizations such as the Sundre Municipal Library as well as local businesses not necessarily directly related to oil and gas.

And this year, members of the Sundre Fire Department demonstrated an emergency extrication from a staged single vehicle rollover scenario just outside the Sundre Arena. The mock exercise was watched by dozens of people and involved a driver who was intoxicated, a passenger who was ejected and declared deceased at the scene, as well as a surviving patient who sustained a severe spinal injury.

There were also some other activities outside the arena, including a petting zoo and a throwing axe station.
