The man who was recently reported missing after venturing away from the former Mountain Aire Lodge west of Sundre has been discovered deceased.
In a press release issued today, the Sundre RCMP reported that the body of Terrance Kereluke, from Regina, Sask., was found in the water near the shore of the Red Deer River at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
“The exact cause of death at this time has yet to be determined and Sundre RCMP is currently working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The matter remains under investigation but is not criminal in nature,” reads a portion of the press release.
“Sundre RCMP would to like express appreciation to the many volunteers from Sundre, Didsbury, and Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue groups, Sundre Fire Department, Clearwater Fire Services, and also to Ahlstrom Air Ltd. for the use of their helicopter.”
On the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 7, the Sundre RCMP detachment responded to a report of a male missing from the former Mountain Aire Lodge in Clearwater County. Kereluke had last been seen at about 9 a.m. on the same day, going for a walk. Staff members searched the surrounding area without locating him, police reported.
A followup search was conducted by members of the Sundre RCMP with the assistance of Police Dog Services, but was unsuccessful in locating him. The RCMP continued searching on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 8 in coordination with several Search and Rescue teams, a search helicopter crew, and the fire services of Sundre and Clearwater County.
Officials initially hoped the man had hitchhiked out of the area and had been seeking the public's help to determine his whereabouts.
Sgt. Jody Achtymichuk of the Sundre RCMP said on Thursday, Sept. 12 that authorities wanted to inform the public that Kereluke had been found, but did not anticipate further followups on the situation.
