Just off his recent landslide PC riding nomination win, Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Ty Lund says he has no plans to wait for the next election before moving forward with several major undertakings.
The sixth-term MLA for the riding, Lund defeated challenger Jimmy Clark during the constituency nomination vote on Jan. 21.
Working to bring new long term and assisted living beds to Sundre and other towns in the riding is one of Lund's ongoing projects, he said.
ìOne of the big things is to increase the long term care facilities,î said Lund, 73. ìSundre, Rocky and Rimbey all need more. And of course there is not just the higher level of care, but we also need more assisted living.
ìThere will be some more provincial money coming in this upcoming fiscal year, so organizations have to get their ducks in order so that when money does become available that they can get their applications in.
ìI'll be really pushing that those areas get the statistics and make good business plans so that when the money becomes available we can move on it.î
A second area where Lund says he plans to continue working is expanding tourism to his riding, including the Sundre area.
ìAnother thing I'm anxious to move on is we need to try to encourage more tourism in the constituency,î he said.
He said he will be meeting with Chambers of Commerce officials in Sundre, Rocky and Rimbey in the coming weeks to ìsee if we can get Travel Alberta to promote some of these tours. It would be an excellent tour to come out of Calgary, got through Banff, come up Highway 93 and then come through to Rocky and Sundre.î
ìThat wildlife museum and the museum in Sundre is one of the better kept secrets in the province and it is not getting the attention it should, in my opinion,î he said.
ìWe really have to get at it because Travel Alberta will be doing a lot of their advertising right shortly, so we need to get the communities on side and get behind it.î
The next provincial election must be held this spring, although an exact date has not been set.
