With the Sundre AquaPlex set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on June 23, the facility's new manager is hoping the next 10 years will be even better.
Wanda Hoogendyk says the facility, which includes a five-lane swimming pool, a large well-equipped weight room and other amenities, can continue to be a jewel for Sundre.
“I would like to see the AquaPlex used and enjoyed by even more people in the future,” said Hoogendyk. “It's a great facility for the town and all the residents and visitors.”
She said her immediate plans for the AquaPlex include increasing corporate sponsorship involvement, recruiting more volunteers, and increasing overall usage by all age groups.
As manager, Hoogendyk is in overall charge of the facility, overseeing the operations of the pool, weight room, staffing, volunteer efforts, and business and corporate sponsorship. She also oversees the special events such as the Triathlon and the Strongman contest.
There are supervisors of the pool and weight room who answer directly to the manager.
Although she is not herself a lifeguard, Hoogendyk explained that she is an active person, with her interests including bicycling, horseback riding and especially walking.
The Sundre Aquatic Society is the owner and operator of the Sundre AquaPlex, which is located along the Bearberry Creek in the town's northwest.
