SUNDRE – No one was hurt on Friday night when a relatively minor fire was sparked by an electrical short at the Little Red Deer Store east of town.
Ross Clews, the Sundre Fire Department’s chief, told the Albertan on Monday morning that the call had come in at about 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9.
“An electrical wire shorted out on some paper and it just produced some smoke,” said Clews.
“There was no structural damage, no burn damage other than the wiring,” he said.
The local department dispatched several units, and members from Olds were also automatically called out as per mutual aid agreements, but they were stood down when Sundre firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly ascertained the situation did not require additional assistance.
“The building owners extinguished pretty much the burning paper and insulation,” said Clews, adding firefighters ensured the scene was safe before heading back to hall.
“We had an electrician come and verify the lines were no longer active after we ventilated the building, and then we left,” he said.
“Nobody was injured and there was no real damage other than a little bit of wiring.”
