Several unrelated, ongoing court cases were recently adjourned.
Breach of trust
The former treasurer of the Sundre Community Van Society, Robin Strub, 30, from Caroline, was scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Feb. 25. The case was adjourned to March 18 for election and plea, according to an inquiry submitted to Alberta Court Checks. Strub was charged with breach of trust last July, following allegations of unauthorized personal expenses in the amount of about $6,300.
Animal, property theft
In an unrelated matter, Ginia Marie Ann Rees, 36, from Sundre, was to appear in Didsbury provincial court for election and plea on Jan. 28. Following the theft of several animals from a Garrington Bridge-area property last July, Rees was charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000, six counts of theft of cattle, mischief under $5,000, possession of stolen property as well as obstruction.
Her case was adjourned to May 27 in Didsbury for mental health diversion, which is a "program the province offers for adult and youth with a suspected or diagnosed mental disorder that have been charged with low risk minor offences. The individual is diverted from the courts and provided the appropriate supports," according to the Sundre RCMP detachment's Cpl. Joe Mandel.
"There is a catch that the individual needs to agree to participate in the program and being assessed. Should the individual not be found with a mental disorder, the person is returned to the courts to answer to the charge," Mandel wrote in an email.
"A person who is accepted into the program and successfully completes their requirements within the court imposed timeline will have their matter withdrawn by the courts."
An alleged accomplice in this incident, Carl Gerald Johnson, 60, from Rocky Mountain House, had also initially been charged with possession of stolen property and obstruction in connection with this case, but those were withdrawn last December in lieu of the adult alternative measures program.
Flee from police
In another matter, Richard Bow-Noskiye, 19, from Sundre, who was charged in November with numerous offences after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle, was to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Feb. 4, and following a rescheduled court date on March 4, his case was subsequently adjourned for a hearing on June 24 in Didsbury.
