Organizer says Neighbours’ Day in Sundre drew big crowd (9 photos)

Tracey McCrimmon, executive director of Sundre Petroleum Operators Group, said as many as 2,500 people came out to see number of exhibitors

SUNDRE – The local arena was abuzz with activity on Friday, Aug. 23 for the 2024 edition of Neighbours’ Day.

Organizer Tracey McCrimmon, executive director of the Sundre Petroleum Operators Group, which is behind the community-building event, estimated that as many as approximately 2,500 people came throughout the span of the day that ran from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Roughly 300 people came out to enjoy the pancake breakfast, with some 850 lining up for lunch later in the day, said McCrimmon.

There were also a total of 51 exhibitors and booths set up both by companies and industry groups as well as community service organizations, she said.

Members of the Sundre Fire Department offered a live demonstration of an extrication in a staged scenario that involved a vehicle rollover that left the patient – a training mannequin – with possible spinal injuries as part of the array of activities held at the local arena. From start to finish, the vehicle extrication exercise took approximately 15 minutes and 40 seconds to complete.

Among the other activities was an axe-throwing station as well as a petting zoo that always proves popular with children.

Neighbours’ Day got started more than 10 years ago as a means to build bridges between industry and community, and since then has evolved to include a greater variety of exhibitors including community service organizations such as the Sundre Citizens on Patrol Association as well as the Sundre Municipal Library.
