Kevin Heerema, the town's bylaw officer, presented a year-end report to councillors during a governance meeting last month.

The presentation involved a few significant numbers in the last year, regarding traffic stops and pets found roaming town.

Heerema said he conducted 345 traffic stops in town throughout the year.

ìJust over half of those resulted in tickets; a little less than half resulted in warnings,î he said.

ìThe most significant one was 175 of those stops were for speeding,î he noted.

There were also a number of pet run-ins.

ìSomething that is an ongoing problem is the number of dogs and cats at large,î he said.

He dealt with 18 cats at large and 40 dogs at large last year.

Also, there were a total of 16 barking dog complaints.

ìI find with barking dog complaints, I'm probably getting a lot less of those complaints filed to me than what are actually occurring,î he said.

There have been a number of times when someone says they have had a nearby dog barking for a while, he said.

ìI'd like to hear from them earlier, or folks to recognize the fact that when their dogs are home alone in the yard, these dogs may or may not be barking,î he explained.

ìThat's something they should be addressing prior to me getting involved,î he said.

Another significant number is 22 unsightly properties or snow removal complaints were looked at.

ìIdeally I would like all of these numbers to be reduced,î he said.
