SUNDRE — Local Mounties have issued a travel advisory today, Feb. 12 for motorists as a slow-moving vehicle convoy is planning to head to Sundre from Cremona.

Sgt. Trent Sperlie, Sundre RCMP detachment commander, said police anticipate traffic delays at the junction of Highway 27 and Highway 22 east of town.

“We are expecting a protest in the form of a convoy,” said Sperlie, urging drivers to use caution at the intersection and to expect traffic disruptions through the demonstration's duration.

“We are going to be at the intersection to ensure it goes safely,” the sergeant said.

He said an organizer claimed there could be upwards of 200 vehicles participating, but added, “I’m not sure if that is embellished or not.”

The convoy was scheduled to depart from Cremona at 11 a.m., and the sergeant said the group is expected to slowly lumber its way to the intersection, taking about an hour to get there and by extension causing expected delays into Sundre.
