Two young boys were frightened but unharmed when a burglar who had broken into the family’s home quickly fled the scene upon discovering the children.
Police were called to a residence in town on Wednesday, July 17 at about 7 p.m. following a report of a break-in, reads a release issued by Sundre RCMP.
“The homeowner reported that his house was broken into a few hours prior while his 13-year-old and 10-year-old sons were home,” said police.
“The suspect knocked on the front door and when there was no answer, the suspect went around the house and smashed out a basement window to gain access.”
The male was making his way through the home filling up his pockets when he saw the two boys attempting to hide in their rooms, and then promptly fled the property, said police.
“The boys were initially frightened but unharmed in the matter.”
Footage of the break-in was captured on video by security cameras. Police immediately identified the male, who was subsequently located and arrested.
Michael Hicks, 40, was charged with break and enter as well as theft under $5,000. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Aug. 19.
