The Sundre RCMP detachment is asking the public for help to identify a male suspect who was reportedly seen last week opening the doors of unlocked vehicles in search of valuables.

On Tuesday, March 19 at about 4:30 a.m., the local detachment responded to several reports of a suspicious male in the town’s northeast residential subdivision, said a press release.

“The male was accessing parked vehicles and rummaging through them looking for items to steal,” reported police.

“This activity is also known as ‘car hopping.’”

The male was reportedly only able to get away with an undisclosed minor amount of small change. He is described as Caucasian, about six feet tall with a skinny build, in his late teens or early 20s and was at the time of the offences wearing a dark grey jacket with a white hoodie and white pants, said police.

The RCMP is asking residents in the northeast part of Sundre who have security cameras to check their footage for the time frame of 2 to 4 a.m. on March 19.

Anyone with footage or information that could assist police in the effort to identify the suspect is encouraged to contact the local detachment at 403-638-3675 or their local police service.
