The Sundre RCMP detachment is seeking information from potential witnesses following an incident that left a male victim suffering from a non-lethal gunshot wound.

On Thursday, Oct. 18 at approximately 9:30 a.m., police received a complaint from the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre advising that an adult male victim had attended the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower extremities.

The victim told police that earlier that morning, he was at a bonfire party by the Red Deer River, where there were approximately 15-20 people, when he was shot.

The victim was transported by an unknown person to the Sundre hospital and dropped off, according to police. The victim could only provide vague information on the event such as where it occurred and whether there were any witnesses. The male was transported to a Calgary hospital for further treatment of his non-life-threatening injury.

"This event is very concerning to our office," said Cpl. Joe Mandel.

"At this time, we do not know the motivation behind the occurrence, but would like to hear from anyone that can shed some light on this matter."

Anyone with information on this matter is encouraged to contact the Sundre RCMP Detachment at 403-638-3675 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-2477 (TIPS).
