A Sundre RCMP police vehicle was recently struck after members attended the local Fountain Tire to investigate a report of a suspicious truck in the parking lot.
On Friday, Dec. 28 at about 9 p.m., the detachment received a complaint about a dark blue Ford F-150 pickup truck that had earlier that evening been witnessed driving aggressively with its two occupants behaving oddly. The suspect vehicle immediately fled the scene when officers arrived, the RCMP reported.
“Police attempted to block their escape from the parking lot but the truck struck one of the police vehicles and pushed its way past into the ditch,” states a press release dated Saturday, Dec. 29.
The truck was able to get onto Highway 27 and fled east, with the driver turning off the vehicle’s headlights to further evade capture, said police. Officers continued to pursue the suspects after they turned south onto Highway 22, but lost sight of the vehicle south of Highway 582.
Police are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the truck involved as well as the male and female suspects who were in the vehicle, which sustained some damage to the lower portion of the driver’s side door from pushing past the RCMP cruiser.
The truck is described as a 2014-15 dark blue Ford F-150 XTR with a large antenna on the top of the cab, mudflaps with a chrome Ford emblem, dark coloured wheels as well as the damaged lower portion of the driver’s side door.
The driver has been described as a Caucasian male in his 20s who was wearing a dark ball cap, dark sweater, dark pants and a light coloured jacket with dark, horizontal stripes. The passenger has been described as a Caucasian female in her early 20s with dark hair, a dark jacket, a light coloured sweater as well as light pants with dark mukluk style boots.
Anyone with information about the identify of the suspects or the location of the truck is encouraged to contact the Sundre RCMP at 403-638-3675. Alternatively, anonymous tips may be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-2477 (TIPS).
