Fortis Alberta confirms an unplanned power outage is affecting customers in Sundre.

At about 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, power was severed to many commercial and residential customers. Fortis says a fire was the cause of the outage.

Sundre firefighters were dispatched for an electricity hazard related to a power pole behind V&S on Centre Street that apparently had caught fire.

Centre Street from Main Avenue up to just past Mountain View Credit Union was cordoned off for Fortis to restore power and firefighters to deal with the hazard.

Fortis has updated its outage map, counting 1,286 customers as being affected as of 2:25 p.m.

The power company is working to restore power.
