Cochrane chuckwagon driver, Grant Profit captured his first event on the current 2011 World Professional Chuckwagon Racing Association schedule as he won the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Derby held over the weekend.
It was the second event this season Profit has finished within the top three fastest wagons.
Racing from the first barrel position, Profit was in a classic championship race as he was driving against Troy Dorchester and Kirk Sutherland.
When the dust cleared from the the racetrack, Profit was in the winner's circle as he edged Dorchester by a mere 2 one-hundreds of a seconds. Sutherland was just 38 one-hundreds of the leaders' posted time.
Besides winning the feature roace, Profit was the aggregate winner with a three day total of 3:03.02. Placing second overall was Kirk Sutherland with a running time of 3:04.34. with an aggregate time of 3:04.06, Dorchester claimed the third spot overall with time of 3:04.46
Rounding out the top five drivers were Chad Harden and Jason Glass. Harden posted a time of 3:05.28 while Glass combined his time at 3:05.34.
In the 2011 World Standings, Profit is presently leading the pack with 286 points. He is followed byTroy dorchester with 253.5 points. Residing in third place with 250.5 points is Layne MacGillivary. Fourth place is held by Reg Johnstone with 237.5 points. In fifth spot is
This was the first time Profit has won the Medicine derby.
For Profit, a veteran of twenty-five years in the wagon box, it has been an excellent start to the 2011 WPCA schedule as he placed third at the opening meet in Grande Prairie.
A two time winner of the WPCA Most Improved Driver Award, Profit placed third overall in the 2010 WPCA standings, his best result.
This coming weekend, June 17-19, the wagoners will turn into Drumheller to compete in the Richard Cosgrave Badlands Dinosaur Derby being held in Drumheller AB.
Drumheller is a familiar site for Profit as he established a new track record.
Meanwhile, Cremona wagon master, Jordie Fike posted an aggregate time 3:07.60 at the Medicine Hat derby. His opening run araound the barrels was clocked at 1:03.45. On his second trip around the track he was clocked at 1:01.85. His final run came in at 1:02.40. he claimed 77 points in the world standings.
