SUNDRE – A young group of choir singers recently had the opportunity to demonstrate the quality of their vocal cords in Edmonton.
Following their recent performance at the Olds Kiwanis Music Festival, the Grade 5 students from River Valley School were recommended to join about 16 others from throughout the province who came to Alberta’s capital for the provincial music festival, said Tracy Wilson, who is the music teacher for multiple programs at both River Valley and Sundre High schools.
“The choir is made up of all the students in Grade 5,” Wilson told the Albertan by email in response to follow-up questions.
They travelled to Edmonton on Thursday, May 30 and performed at the McDougall United Church, she said.
“Our group received a score of distinction for their performance,” she said.
The choir does a singing unit in music class, and has also performed locally at the Remembrance Day assembly, she said, adding they “did such a great job I decided to take them to festival this year.”
Wilson also added she could not immediately recall the last time a choir from River Valley School had gone to perform in Edmonton for the provincial music festival.
“It is the first time in my memory that a choir from River Valley School has attended the provincial music festival,” she said.
“So it was an honour and a great experience for the students and myself.”
