Seven people were injured, including at least one critically, in a two-vehicle crash at Westward Ho on Sunday, July 24.

An SUV with five occupants was westbound on Highway 27 when a car pulled out of the Little Red Deer River Store turnout into the path of the SUV, say police.

The driver of the SUV was critically injured and was flown from the scene by STARS to a hospital in Calgary.

Six other people with undisclosed injuries were taken by ground ambulance to area hospitals.

Both the SUV and the car ended up in the eastbound lane of the highway just east of the Little Red Deer River Bridge. Debris from the crash covered both lanes of the two-lane highway.

Traffic was diverted south to the Bergen Road for several hours following the crash. As of Monday, July 25, the police investigation was ongoing.
