Several charges against Calgary male withdrawn

All of the charges against one of three Calgary males who had been arrested in 2017 following a rash of rural property thefts were eventually withdrawn.

Sundre RCMP had arrested the three men following several reports of criminal activity occurring on rural locations northeast of the town from March 19-22, 2017 .

Derryck Gerbrandt had faced two counts of possession of stolen property as well as breach of release conditions stemming from the incident. According to a request for information submitted to a media court inquiry service last week, all three of those charges were withdrawn on Aug. 21, 2017.

Bronson Palmantier, who had been charged with numerous offences, was sentenced and fined on Nov. 8, 2017 for the following: 90 days as well as a $100 fine for possession of a weapon and a five-year firearm prohibition; 90 days as well as a $100 fine for obstructing a peace officer; 90 days as well as a $100 fine for breaching conditions; and one day for entering on land without permission. The following three charges against Palmantier were withdrawn: assault with a weapon as well as the two counts of possession of stolen property less than $5,000.

Daniel Stoffels, who had also been charged with many offences, was sentenced and fined on Aug 21, 2017 for the following: six months as well as a $200 fine for possession of property more than $5,000; and six months as well as a $200 fine each for two counts of breaching conditions. The following charges against Stoffels were withdrawn: eight counts of possession of property less than $5,000 as well as two counts of breaching condition recognizance.
