Shady Grove sets attendance record in Sundre

Organizer said between 850-900 people attended bluegrass festival over the July 12-14 weekend

SUNDRE – The Shady Grove Bluegrass Festival returned this past weekend to the Sundre Rodeo Grounds with a lengthy lineup of performers including Jake Vaadeland & the Sturgeon River Boys taking to an outdoor stage.

Eric Holt, event director and president of the Foothills Bluegrass Music Society, said there from July 12-14 was an estimated turnout of between 850-900 people; nearly but not quite double last year’s 500-plus.

“It was the best turnout that we’ve ever had. We had way more people than we expected,” Holt told the Albertan on Monday morning, adding the largely sunny weather for the open air event “couldn’t have been better.”
