SUNDRE – The local ball diamonds were a busy place over the weekend of June 14-16.

The Sundre Minor Ball Stealers hosted visitors in both U9 as well as U11 tournaments that each had eight teams playing including the home squad.

Scattered rains and a brief downpour weren’t enough to dampen spirits and hamper play; at least not much.

“There were lots of periods of rain on Saturday but the kids played through the rain,” said president Michele Blackhurst.

At one point, the weather did prompt organizers to press to the pause button, but Blackhurst said there were no major delays.

“One game had to pause for 30 minutes due to lightening, but otherwise we stayed on schedule,” she told the Albertan.

“It was a great weekend overall,” she said, adding the visiting teams imparted plenty of positive feedback after enjoying the tournament.

The U9 event winners were from Three Hills, with the Sundre U9-2 squad taking silver while Drumheller got the bronze.

In the U11 event, the team from Three Hills also emerged on top, with Olds taking silver and bronze going to Carstairs.
