Sizzlin’ up savoury steaks in support of Sundre's Royal Canadian Legion

Last Royal Canadian Legion Sundre Branch #223 barbecue fundraiser of summer scheduled for September

SUNDRE – Residents and visitors who want to support the local legion while at the same time enjoying the opportunity to savour a tasty steak might consider marking their calendar for Thursday, Sept. 19.

That will be the Sundre Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223’s final barbecue of the season. The annual fundraiser that takes place throughout the summer season every third Thursday of the month raises funds to help offset the cost of operating and maintaining the building.

Members of the legion, which is located at 135, 6th Street southeast just east of Highway 760 – also known locally as the Bergen Road – had most recently fired up the grill immediately adjacent the building’s north-facing wall on Thursday, Aug. 15, when almost 90 people were served their choice of juicy steak or sizeable chicken breast that they then placed on the barbecue and cooked to their personal preference with a lineup of side dishes awaiting inside.

Although the last barbecue of the season takes place Sept. 19, another supper that will be raising proceeds for the Sundre and District Aquaplex is also scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28.
