A variety of vintage and modern vehicles were on display during the fifth annual seniors’ barbecue car show held on Thursday, Aug. 3 at the Sundre Seniors’ Supportive Living centre. Organizer Chris Aldrich said the purpose of the event is to express some appreciation for seniors.

The sun shone hot and bright and the skies were clear and blue for the fifth annual seniors' barbecue car show.

"We couldn't ask for better weather today," Chris Aldrich, a local business owner and organizer of the event, told the Round Up during a brief interview while facing the heat of a grill to flip burgers.

ACL and Black Gold Rush work together in collaboration with Mountain View Seniors' Housing to host the event, which essentially serves as an opportunity to express gratitude and to show appreciation for the seniors, he said.

The barbecue car show used to be held at the former Foothills Lodge, and last year was the first time the event was hosted at the Sundre Seniors' Supportive Living centre.

"It's great," Aldrich said about the new location.

"Looks like it's (the event) going to get growing more and more."

Since the new facility has many more residents, there are more mouths to feed and organizers planned to prepare as many as 240 burgers, which came with a side of fries and salad, he said.

"We're getting more cars to come out now too."

MVSH reserved plenty of parking spots for the vehicles, which ranged from vintage to modern, and about 30 were on display at the time he spoke with the Round Up, although he added more were expected to arrive before the end of the afternoon.

"We just enjoy doing it ó it's kind of a team-building event for us too. It's a great day."

The lodge's ladies auxiliary was also gratefully accepting donations for the new facility.
