SUNDRE – A member of the municipal council volunteered to let his name stand as the town’s representative on the Parkland Regional Library System board to replace a longtime volunteer from Sundre.

Pat Toone, the former outgoing rep, was set to complete a one-year term that ended Oct. 31 and would no longer be able to continue serving in that capacity.

The Parkland Regional Library System is governed by a board that meets four times a year and is made up of 64 representatives from member municipalities that are appointed by each community’s respective council.

Although not exclusively comprised of representatives from municipal councils, many of those who sit on Parkland’s board are also elected officials.

Toone was a former longtime Sundre councillor who also went on to serve as mayor, and for many years after her time in public office she remained heavily involved in volunteer roles, including the boards of directors for the Sundre Municipal Library as well as the Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society.

During the council meeting where the appointment was addressed, Coun. Todd Dalke said that he would be willing to step into the position on Parkland’s board provided of course none of his council colleagues were committed to taking on that role.

No other member of council contested the nomination, and Coun. Jaime Marr moved to appoint Dalke as the town’s rep on the Parkland board for a one-year term.

“I think it’s important that we recognize the number of years that Pat Toone served on this board. I just want to acknowledge the years that she put into it,” Marr added.

Marr also mentioned she had been informed that many representatives on the board are also municipal councillors, and expressed appreciation to Dalke for being willing to let his name stand.

The motion carried unopposed.
