SUNDRE - The Sundre area was among 29 locations in Alberta to hit a record high temperature Wednesday.
According to Environment Canada, the temperature rose to 33.9 C at the Sundre Airport on July 10.
That’s a new record for the date, the agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993.
The previous record high for the area on July 11 was 31.0 C set in 2005.
As well, the Alberta Electricity System Operator noted electricity demand also broke records July 10 with a record peak of 12,122 megawatts.
Hot and dry conditions have led to 137 new wildfire starts since July 1 and heightened wildfire danger throughout the province, according to the province.
