SUNDRE — A local man was released on bail with several conditions after being arrested and charged with a number of offences related to a string of property crimes in the area.
On and between March 19-22, the Sundre RCMP detachment received multiple complaints about a potentially impaired motorist driving a truck at varying rates of speed in a dangerous manner in and around town, police reported in a press release dated April 6.
Courtesy of assistance from members of Raven Crime Watch, police identified the suspect driver as a local male.
The suspect allegedly tore up the country side in the truck, driving through people’s yards and fields, also plowing through fences and gates in attempts to evade and hide from Raven Crime Watch as well as Sundre Citizens on Patrol and police.
At one point, he turned the truck around and charged toward a member of the Sundre RCMP, said police.
Additionally, the truck the suspect was driving was connected to several files of break and enter, possession of stolen property, as well as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and arson/damage to property.
Daniel Conway, 25, was with assistance from the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Team arrested and charged with:
• break and entering with intent
• possession of property obtained by crime
• arson/damage to property
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• assault on police officer with weapon
• flight from police officer
• several provincial statutes
He was subsequently released on bail with several conditions, including being barred from attending a rural address near Bearberry, possessing or carrying any weapons or imitation weapons, restricted ammo or explosive substance, being found in a vehicle without the registered owner present, as well as not carrying any lighters, matches, or any incendiary device capable of starting a fire, with the exception of one lighter for personal use.
The accused has been scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on April 15.
