MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – A Sundre-area woman has died in a road construction accident near Provost, east of Red Deer.
The 23-year-old woman was operating a ground packer vehicle on a construction site on Highway 899 and Rge. Rd. 15 on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 18) when it overturned, police said Thursday.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the packer was being operated when it rolled over into a ditch and the driver was ejected,” said RCMP Cpl. Ronald Bumbry, media relations officer with the Eastern Alberta District.
The woman from Mountain View County, who has not been named, was pronounced dead on scene.
The site where the accident occurred is part of a new road building project about 30 kilometres south of Provost, he said.
He could not say whether the woman was working for a private company.
A ground packer is a large industrial vehicle with rollers used to compact soil and gravel.
Provost RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are investigating the fatality.
