SUNDRE — Albeit with health protocols in place, the local arena opened on Monday, Nov. 23.
The installation of a new ice plant at the Sundre Arena, which also required upgrades to the portion of the structure that houses the unit, was recently completed, paving the way to flood the surface for the season. The process delayed the usual opening in October.
Among the guidelines issued by the municipality for the facility’s use during the pandemic is a requirement for all arena users and organizations to keep track of participants for each activity for the purpose of contact tracing in the event of an outbreak.
Groups are additionally expected to follow their respective sport’s governing body’s guidelines.
Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the facility, and people are asked to stay home if they’re feeling unwell. While staff will also disinfect various areas and common touch points between users, the bleachers, which are open with physical distancing measures in place, will not be regularly sanitized, reads a report to council.
To accommodate space for physical distancing, use of dressing rooms will be limited and shower facilities will not be available. Users will be expected to come in through the building’s main entrance and exit through the players’ dressing room doors. To that end, users are also encouraged to arrive with their required equipment on, not including helmets, skates and gloves.
