Staff and patrons at the Sundre Bottle Depot were left stunned on Saturday morning but otherwise unharmed following a brazen daylight robbery at the local business.

On Sept. 17 at approximately 10:50 a.m., the Sundre RCMP detachment responded to a complaint of a robber with a firearm at the depot, which is located on Secondary Highway 760 — also known as the Bergen Road — just south of Highway 27.

The culprit had entered the premise armed with a long rifle and demanded that all persons in the premise remain still. He then proceeded to order staff to give him money. He quickly fled and it is estimated that he made off with about $2,000 from the heist.

The suspect stood approximately six feet tall and had a slender build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white sneakers. The robber's face was covered with a scarf, bandana and sunglasses. The thief made his getaway prior to police arrival and was seen fleeing the area in a grey Volkswagen Jetta heading eastbound on Highway 27.

No persons were injured during the robbery. The matter is actively being investigated, and anyone with information regarding this occurrence is encouraged to contact the Sundre RCMP detachment at 403-638-3675 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
