Sundre breaks another high temperature record Tuesday

SUNDRE - The Sundre area was among several locations in Alberta to hit a record high temperature Tuesday.

According to Environment Canada, the temperature rose to 15.5 C at the Sundre Airport on Dec. 5. 

That’s a new record for the date, the agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993. 

The previous record high for the area on Dec. 5 was 6.7 C set in 1999. 

According to the hourly data report for Tuesday, the high was hit at 1 p.m. 

The Sundre area also hit record high temperatures a couple days in November. The temperature rose to 18.8 C at the Sundre Airport on Nov. 21. The previous record high for the area on Nov. 21 was 16.2 C set in 2005. 

Two days previous on Nov. 18, the temperature at the Sundre Airport rose to 14.5 C, beating the previous record for that date as well. 

Seven other areas in Alberta also set a daily maximum temperature record on Tuesday, Dec. 5, according to Environment Canada's weather summary: 

The Bow Island area set a new record of 18.6 C beating the former record of 12.8 C set in 1962. Records in this area have been kept since 1961.

The Crowsnest area set a new record of 9.5 C beating the old record of 8.0 C set in 1987. Records in this area have been kept since 1965.

The Esther area's new record is 12.1 beating the old record of 10.5 set in 1988. Records in this area have been kept since 1985. 

The Hendrickson Creek area hit a new record of 7.9 C. The old record was 6.8 C set in 2000. Records in this area have been kept since 1995.

The Milk River area's new record is 16.6 C beating the old record of 9.6 C set in 2020. Records in this area have been kept since 1994.

The Taber area set a new record of 17.2 C. The old record of 13.0 set in 1988. Records in this area have been kept since 1947.

The Waterton Park area set a new record of 14.3 C beating the old record of 12.5 C set in 2020. Records in this area have been kept since 1976.

Environment Canada notes the temperature records reported in its weather summary have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that have been active during the period of record. The summary may contain preliminary or unofficial information and does not constitute a complete or final report.
