SUNDRE — A centenarian is receiving special recognition from the Town of Sundre after a heartfelt request from his grandson.
Linda Nelson, the town's chief administrative officer, informed council recently that the municipality received a request from Steve Moser, a grandson of Wilhelm Moser, to recognize his grandfather’s 100th birthday.
“Of course with COVID, visits with family and friends have been restricted. So his grandson thought that presenting this certificate would brighten up his day,” said Nelson during the teleconferenced Sept. 14 meeting.
Moser was born Sept. 19, 1920 in Germany, but has lived in Sundre since 1967. As a bricklayer by trade, he was part of the building and maintenance effort at the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre, Steve wrote in an email to administration.
“After my Oma passed away last fall and the whole COVID pandemic meaning we can’t visit, he’s had a bit of a rough go over the last while. I think this would really mean a lot to him!” he added.
The certificate recognizes Moser’s contributions to the community along with well wishes for his centennial birthday celebration.
“I think all six of us would like to” make a motion to accept the certificate for information, said Coun. Paul Iaac.
“You’re absolutely right,” said Town of Sundre Mayor Terry Leslie with a chuckle.
“We should live so long!”
