SUNDRE – The local museum's pioneer village grounds were abuzz with activity for Canada Day celebrations in the community.
The Sundre & District Museum hosted most of the local activities for Canada's 156th birthday, which included a car show with more than 100 registered entries that was put on by the West Country Cruisers, live music by Tim Hus and his band, a free barbecue, kids' games, as well as a market hosted at the Elks hall.
Erin Erickson, a member of the car club as well as one of the show's organizers, said there were 111 vehicles registered overall. Sundre resident Scott Dickson's 1946 Chevrolet Maple Leaf won the show's Mayor's Choice award.
There were five trophies overall, with recognition going to: Clancy Adams with his 1954 Ford Skyliner; Chris Aldrich and his 1952 Ford Meteor Club Coupe; Judy McCaw for her 1956 Convertible Meteor; Curtis Garrell with a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS; and Lloyd Fike who had a 1966 Chevy C10.
Unfortunately, rain clouds rolled in at around 1:30 p.m., followed by rumbling thunder and a relatively short downpour.
Shortly afterward, a tornado warning was issued for the Didsbury area with reports of a twister travelling southeast. However, by 2:45 p.m., the tornado advisory was cancelled. Visit Alberta's emergency alerts for updates.
Provided conditions allow, a fireworks display was tentatively set for tonight at the Sundre Rodeo Grounds.
