SUNDRE – Town council has recently unanimously carried two separate motions at different meetings maintaining the municipality’s long-standing commitment to support the Sundre Hospital Futures Gala.

On Oct. 7 during a regular meeting, council approved a request submitted by organizers with the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee to waive the Sundre Community Centre’s rental fee in the amount of $262.50 including GST, the cost covered by the municipality’s discretionary fund to local organizations, which at the time of the discussion had a remaining balance of $922.23.

And earlier last month, council had on Sept. 9 also carried a motion as recommended by administration to purchase a table for eight at a cost not to exceed $800 with the expense also drawn from the discretionary fund to local organizations, which at that time stood at $1,722.23.

The theme for this year’s gala, which takes place Saturday, Nov. 16, is Building for Tomorrow – a reference of the committee’s pursuit of establishing in Sundre an innovative rural health-care campus to eventually replace the Myron Thompson Health Centre.

The event is the committee’s main fundraiser of the year and also serves as an opportunity to celebrate local health-care workers as well as announce developments and plans.

Proceeds in part go towards physician attraction and retention efforts as well as the committee’s ongoing capital campaigns that support the acquisition of new equipment at the Sundre hospital.
