SUNDRE – More than 200 people took the time to stop by the Sundre West Country Centre last weekend to check out the Sundre Creative Arts group’s annual art show and sale.
“It went well,” said Lila Weiss, vice-president, adding organizers were pleased with the turnout.
Throughout the weekend of April 29-30, about 240 people dropped by the centre to peruse 140 paintings that were put on display by 15 presenting artists. Out of 124 pieces that were available for purchase, 30 were sold, said Weiss.
“It was steady both days,” she said.
While a row of paintings was reserved specifically for pieces relating to this year’s theme – On the Forest Floor – the remaining works on display featured a variety of genres from landscapes to portraits and wildlife.
A depiction of a calf in a piece called Taco that was created by Sundre-area artist Rhonda VanVlaanderan was named people’s favourite.
Olds artist Celine Lockie participated in the long-running annual show and sale for her first time, and the young artist said she relished the opportunity not only to gain some exposure by exhibiting some of her work but also to get a chance to see the variety of other styles on display.
“I’ll definitely come back and throw my hat in the ring,” Lockie said in response to being asked if she planned to return next year.
“It’s nice to see a couple of younger ones too coming into the show,” said Weiss, hopeful to see that trend continue, adding organizers are already looking forward to next year.
