SUNDRE - Having previously been approved to receive funding to the tune of $4,000 from the municipality’s Grants to Organizations program to help purchase and install permanent flooring at the Sundre Arts Centre’s theatre seating area, the Sundre & District Allied Arts Society recently sought permission to instead reallocate the funds toward an emergent issue.
“Recently, the society has discovered extensive damage to the building addition that serves as a storage facility, which requires immediate rehabilitation,” said Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, during the Sept. 26 council meeting.
She added that the organization requested an amendment to council’s previous motion approving the funds to assist with covering the cost of the emergent repairs.
The background in council’s agenda package included correspondence from the society, which had inquired by email whether reallocating the funds would be possible, or if an entirely new application should be submitted through the Grants to Organizations program.
Nelson said administration’s recommendation was to approve the request, which Coun. Owen Petersen so moved.
“I just appreciate the fact that the organization has come to the town for this request instead of just going ahead and spending the money,” Petersen said.
Mayor Richard Warnock echoed a similar sentiment and without further questions or discussion, council unanimously carried the motion.
