SUNDRE – At least one local dog owner's dream recently became a reality when the municipality opened up a temporary off-leash park for people to take their pooches out to play.

Having moved to Sundre’s southwest residential subdivision nearly nine years ago, Andrew Wilson said he throughout that time had wished the town offered an off-leash dog park.

Although glad to have access to numerous walking paths and nature trails, the new fenced-in area immediately adjacent and to the west of the town office provides an ideal opportunity for his canine companions to sprint and play to their hearts’ content.

While he lives conveniently close to the park, Wilson said he wouldn’t have hesitated to load up the dogs to drive across town if that had been the case.

“It’s so nice,” Wilson said last week about having access to the park, which he comes out to a few times a week, adding “it doesn’t have to be fancy.”

The grassy, fenced-in parcel suffices perfectly to give his dogs – Kevin, a golden doodle, and Lucy, a boxer lab cross – the opportunity to run and tire themselves out, he said.
