SUNDRE – Numerous community groups and initiatives have benefited from the fundraising efforts of the local Elks club.

From January through March of this past year, the Sundre Elks Lodge No. 338 raised money through the community services organization’s weekly bingos and donated a portion of the proceeds to the Sundre Nutrition for Learning Society amounting to $500, said Michelle Engelman, Sundre Elks exalted ruler.

From April through June, the Elks allocated a portion of the funds raised for the Chinook Arch Victim’s Services, which also received $500.

The following few months from July through to September, funds raised were donated to the Sundre High School’s Grade 8 sailing trip in the amount of $2,314.

Since then and until the end of December, the Elks have been setting aside funds raised for Adams Army, with 60 per cent of the regular weekly Tuesday night bingos going toward the cause.

Also benefiting from the Elks’ fundraising efforts through the Marathon Bingo event was the Sundre Community Van Association, which received a donation of $2,000.

The Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society, Aspen Ranch, The Den – Sundre Youth Centre, the Sundre West Country Centre, as well as the Sundre Hospital Ladies Auxiliary also all each received $500 from a pool of funds raised during the Elks’ golf tournament in August.
